St. Marco’s Square (Piazza San Marco)
St. Marco’s is a rectangular shaped area and has always been seen as the centre of Venice.


St. Marco

The Basilica is an example of Romanesque architecture – Byzantine; it was founded in the 9th century in order to house the body of Venice’s Patron St. Mark, purloined from Alexandria of Egypt in 828.


The Correr Museum (Museo Correr)
A collection of documents, relics and other objects such as oriental and Venetian weapons, military regalia and renaissance bronze objects charting the history of Venice during the XIV and XVIII century, together with an important picture gallery are kept in the Correr Museum.


St. Mark’s Square (Piazzetta San Marco)
The part of the Piazza between the Doge's Palace and the Marciana Library is the Piazzetta San Marco, whilst it is delimited by the dock of San Marco.


Doge’s Palace
(Palazzo Ducale)
Founded in the 9th century, the palace became the residence of the Doge of Venice and also housed the magistrates. The present aspect, which is the consequence of numerous restructuring confer the title of the greatest example of Venetian - Gothic architecture.


St. Mark’s Library (Libreria Marciana)
This work of art dates back to the 16th century with I. Sansovino, and represents a masterpiece of the Venetian architecture. It is possible to access the Archeological Museum through number 17, which boasts a collection of precious roman and greek sculptures.
