We start from Via dei Calzaiuoli, which links the Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Signoria.
Orsanmichele
The building was erected in 337 as a renewed lodge – grain market. At the end 14th century, it was transformed into a church and was named San Michele in Orto.
Palace of the Art of Wool (Palazzo dell’Arte della Lana)
Inside the Orsanmichele Museum it is possible to admire the fourteenth hundred century frescos.
Signoria Square (Piazza della Signoria)
It was erected in a typical gothic style by Benci di Cione and Simone Talenti between 1376 and 1382 in order to hold the Seigniory’s assembles and public ceremonies. It later functioned as a laboratory for sculptures and afterwards became a real open art Gallery.
Old Palace (The Palazzo Vecchio)
The building represents one of the most significant middle aged civic monuments in Italy. Constructed by Arnolfo di Cambio, it was erected in 1299. Inside, it is possible to visit the Children’s Museum and with a group of animators, it is possible to create devices, simulate situations, play and experiment.
Uffizi Square (Piazzale degli Uffizi
The Square is surrounded by the Uffizi Palace, a monumental portico building and Loggia built by Giorgio Vasari who erected it between 1560 and 1580.
The Uffizi Gallery (Galleria degli Uffizi)
The Uffizi Palace holds the most important art gallery in Italy and the most ancient museum of Modern Europe. Italian painting masterpieces, from various historical periods and those of foreign schools are kept inside.
History of Science Musuem (Museo di Storia della Scienza)
The museum occupies two levels of the Castellani Palace situated in Piazza dei Giudici. Inside, it is possible to admire a vast collection of scientific devices and instruments initiated by Cosimo il Vecchio.
